Why is there only a two-word phrase option for how you want your shorthand set up?
Even though glossaries may be targeted to a particular field or specialty, they may have quite a large number of identical 2-letter short forms based on the initials of the two-word phrases. That is why the workshop offers you the possibility to quickly assign longer short forms of the type abab, aabcz, etc. for the 2-word phrases of a particular glossary.
The number of these duplicate short forms decreases for 3-word phrases, and there are even considerably less duplicates for 4-word phrases.
However, the idea to apply certain "abbreviation rules" during the compilation process has, indeed, crossed our mind, and we are looking for rule suggestions to put on the wishlist. For the moment it is not obvious which rules are the most popular, and we are hoping to find a consensus about the most efficient ones. We definitely will put yours on the wishlist. Thanks for your suggestion.
