It is simpler than that. There is no need to use format and backspace. Just type an underscore at the end of your entry when adding (or editing). It looks as though that will appear as part of the expansion, but it doesn’t. It simply tells IT not to add a space. Works like a charm.

For instance, an entry that looks like this

    MedRecNo/_
would expand to
    MedRecNo/ (no space and no underscore visible on the screen)

You should definitely uncheck “smart cut and paste” as it has been known to cause many problems. Many of us have come to the conclusion that when Microsoft says something is “smart” … run for the hills!! ;-)
