There are many web-based transcription systems and they all differ. Most work very well with Instant Text V Pro but it is difficult to formulate a general answer. We need to know the exact system.

they are saved as HTML documents (this was explained to my by our IT department people--I have no idea what that really means).

Using Internet Explorer, click on View / Source on any page and you will see the kind of encoding it is with so-called bracketted tags to show the formatting.

When our reports are completed, they are saved as HTML documents (this was explained to my by our IT department people--I have no idea what that really means). The system has lots of problems holding formatting, etc., due to the fact that it is web-based and involves HTML (again, means nothing to me other than problems).

Holding formatting should not be difficult. If the formatting appears, it should be saved correctly if they do it as they should.

If you have any doubt, you can do the following: Once you have finished a document, go to the File menu and save a local copy using Save as and the option Web Page, HTML only, and an htm extension. Then you can try to reopen the page locally in Internet Explorer and see if it appears correctly formatted. If it does, then the problem is in the post-processing they do when saving the files.
