Questions about using the space bar as a phrase expander

I am thinking about setting the space bar, the comma, the period, etc. as phrase expanders, so Instant Text will be more like Word's Autocorrect (which I use extensively). The drawback to Word's Autocorrect is that each shortform must be unique.

If I use the space bar as a phrase expander, do all of my Instant Text short forms need to be unique? If not, how does Instant Text handle duplicate short forms?

If I set the space bar as a phrase expander and I'm typing in Word (in which Autocorrect also uses the space bar as an expander) how do Word and Autocorrect work together?

For instance, suppose I have "at that time" abbreviated att in Instant Text. But in Word, I have "about that time" abbreviated att in Autocorrect. What happens when I type "att" and press the space bar?
