Learning IT
Dawn - I think you'll learn it faster than you expect. I've seen some good suggestions about making the switch - can't remember whether I saw this in the manual or on a forum. Anyway, one good suggestion is to just work with IT for 15 minutes or so a day of your actual production, so you don't slow yourself up and get frustrated at first. After several days, it will become more automatic. If you're used to another system, you can use the dedicated abbreviations you know and gradually introduce using continuations. Whatever method you use, try to relax and not make yourself try to break any speed records at first. (And please resist the temptation to continue to use the space bar as the expander, if that's what you're used to in your old system. The advantages of NOT doing that are huge.) One more tip: It took me a couple of months to realize that I could really save myself a lot of time by letting IT do the caps at the beginning of a sentence for me. And it will automatically space after a period, comma and colon (and you decide whether that will be one space or two, in each case). I especially love that feature. And while you're waiting for your manual, keep browsing back through these posts. You'll pick up some interesting tips and ideas to try later, even if you don't quite understand it all yet. Best success...
