I have a frequent need to use greek letters (for scientific writing) in both Excel and Word. Using formatted text to use the symbol font works in Word, but not in Excel, to do something like microns.

Formatted entries use the RTF (rich text format) code at the level supported by WordPad. This works with Word, WordPerfect and many applications but not in Excel.

You can do a simple test: Create a red entry in Word and copy and paste it in WordPad. It works. Then select the red entry in WordPad and copy it to the clipboard. Then paste it in Excel and it comes out as black. You can use this test to know exactly what will work in Excel.
