How line numbers work
Re: Revision -- Judy
Judy, « Since the revision I've been having a problem with my *ms* entries. If I type ms and hit #5 I get the #3 entry. To give you an idea of what I mean, this is how the entries look in the glossary: »
Actually, this has nothing to do with the revision. It has always been that way :) To understand what is going on, look first at this other example, below. Assume you are using Ages.glo and you have just typed y4:
Now, how do you get 42-years-old? Obviously, you want to type a 2 and get it with y42. So when there are numbers included in the short forms, you want numbers to match short forms. You do not want them to be understood as line numbers: it would indeed be very surprising if IT took the 2 to mean line 2 and gave you 40-year-old! So you can see that it is the same logic that applies in your first example. The 5 in msi5 has precedence so that when you type ms5, IT selects this entry as opposed to the fifth line. One way to get this fitfh entry is to use Ctrl (alone) to get to the last line. Another way is to change the short msi5 into msi (and while you are at it, you may also change the last to msk).
Now there are no more numbers and ms5 will select the entry on the fifth line. Jean Ichbiah
