So you expand this entry as usual and then type Ctrl& after having defined a simple macro that looks for the first &&& in the document and selects it. Then you can directly overtype the replacement and Ctrl& again for the next one.
The last &&& is to make it easy to get to the end of the expansion but you could also do Ctrl+End.
With this solution, you need only one macro if the convention is to use always the same &&& for pauses in all such entries.
