My method(s) with numbers
I vote for Jean's idea of getting rid of the numbers in the short form. I don't like surprises either, but it is the only logical way glossaries can work if you want to use numbers as part of the short form, so a little compromise is required. I am in the habit of using the "no numbers in short forms" facility in the Importer Workshop, which largely takes care of the problem. Of course, depending on your transcription requirements, you might choose to delete the "hospital day #" series altogether. Just another option to consider. For certain other number-rich entries, I like to use a letter to represent the digit. For instance, muscle strength testing requires entries such as 5/5, 4/5, etc. I have these entered as "fof" and "uof." I have 1+, 2+, and 3+ as opl, tpl, and rpl respectively. I hope this gives you some more ideas. MarieR
