Use WordPerfect 6.1/6.2 or 6/7/8 or 6/7/8/9 formats

Sheila,

Instant Text compiles the so-called native Wordperfect formats but it does not compile the format known as "WordPerfect Compound File".

So you need to set the default file format to one of the WP native formats. First you go to Tools/Settings/Files and File Settings (or Edit Preferences in version 7). Then adjust the settings as follows:

  • WordPerfect 7: Select WordPerfect 6.1/6.2 or 5.1/5.2.
(The compound file format is called WordPerfect 7 - very misleading!)
  • WordPerfect 8: Select WordPerfect 6/7/8.
(The compound format is properly called "WordPerfect Compound File".)
  • WordPerfect 9: Select WordPerfect 6/7/8/9.
(Here they don't even give you the compound choice as a default file format.)
If you have existing files in the Compound format, you can open them after having set the default format and save them again. Be aware that this will change the date. If this matters, save them in a temporary folder and then do the compilation.

Incidentally, there is no advantage in using the compound format and you are better off using one of the native formats. Note also that the native formats take (slightly) less disk space.
