On the other hand, the AAMT BOS, which many of us MTs follow, instructs us to "Capitalize the word following the colon if it is normally capitalized, if it follows a heading or subheading, or if the list or series that follows the colon includes multiple complete sentences or thoughts separated by periods."

As the second example here (headings/subheadings) applies to a great deal of MTs work, I agree with my namesake that automatic capitalization would be useful. I don't think there would often be a need to override it.
