This question must have left everyone puzzled as noone answered. Let me try...

As you point out, there is a conflict between having to look at your document and looking at advisories. So this seems to be only possible if you use memorized abbreviation, in which case you can reduce the advisory lines to 1 or even hide the advisories completely (with Alt\) and use the program as you would use PRD-like classical expanders.

I just wonder how hard it would be to go back and forth from the document to the screen

My own impression is that this would be impractical. So you would stick to memorized abbreviations.
