Robin,

First let me answer on the usage side. For my own usage, I started using the Importer convention of initials. But I have found that, for large lists, it is much better to use the last name as the short code. This works especially well if you are using a marker key to expand (as opposed to the space bar). For example, if I am typing your address, I will see your name appear immediately after typing mckn and the address will be expanded with the semi colon.

So my first advice is to use this last name convention as opposed to the initials that the Importer uses, especially since you will be typing all these addresses.

And this brings me to my second point: If you are typing a lot of addresses, it may be simpler to enter them directly in glossary form. Just start with the Address glossary and save it under a different name

[Glossary Addresses ]

[Words]

[Phrases]

Schmelzer Eberhard K. Schmelzer¶100 Commerce Avenue¶Blue Ridge, CA 95241¶

Roissant Jean Daniel Roissant¶47 rue du Buisson¶76016 Paris¶France¶

Plasfeld Norman Plasfeld¶Future Unlimited¶48 Plazza Street¶Belford, CT 06452¶

[end]

Then type each address on a separate line. Type the last name first. Then type a space or a tab to separate the last name from the first "line" of the address. Then type each "line" of the address using ¶ as a separator. Type a carriage return only at the end of each address.

You can do ¶ by typing Alt 0182 on the numeric keypad, and of course, it may make sense to do an Instant Text abbreviation for it.

As you can see in the above example, you need not put them in alphabetical order as Instant Text will sort them upon loading the glossary. You can also use Condense in the Importer to produce a sorted listing.
