As with any new software program, there is a learning curve with Instant Text but once you have become adjusted to the program, you will reap the benefits! =)
The best way to start is to first import your SH list into IT. This will be very helpful because it will allow you to use Instant Text with the abbreviation list that you are most familiar with.
Another common suggestion is to practice with IT for an hour or so each day, and then gradually increase your practice time. So you can give yourself time to learn the program and become adjusted, without impacting your daily production.
Also, some users prefer to start off with a small number of advisory lines to help them to get used to the visual feedback, but that is really a matter of personal preference.
Lastly, you can change your expansion options in Instant Text if you do not want to use the semi-colon to expand, however, using the Marker keys will allow you to take full advantage of all that Instant Text has to offer. If it is an adjustment that you think you can get used to, it is definitely recommended to stick with the marker keys. If you feel like you just want to hit the spacebar, that is ok too, you can just change the marker selection options to do so.
If you would like to read more tips, you will find several posts with suggestions on this topic using the Find option at the top of the forum.
Kind regards,
Kristen
