Having the Automatic Spacing option enabled is a great asset within Instant Text as it allows you to take advantage of continuations that IT suggests in the phrases advisory.
Rather than disabling automatic spacing, we recommend trying one of the following options.
If you would like IT to continue to insert two spaces after a period, you can toggle automatic spacing off when you are typing labs. The keyboard shortcut to toggle automatic spacing off & on is Ctrl+0 (that is Ctrl and the number zero)
Another option would be to keep automatic spacing enabled, but tell IT to not insert any spaces after typing a period. To change the spacing options, go to Options --> Automatic Spacing and set the number of spaces after a period to zero. This would mean that when typing labs, you will not have the spaces inserted in the middle, but you would have to manually type the spaces after each sentence.
The following outline summarizes the different options & their resulting outcomes:
Automatic spacing with Instant Text:
1. needed for continuations
2. nice to have after periods, commas and colons
3. not desirable in decimals
Possible Options in Instant Text:
A. Have automatic spacing enabled and use Ctrl 0 to toggle it off and on
Results:
1. ok
2. ok
3. use toggle (Ctrl 0) before typing lab values, etc.
B. Have automatic spacing enabled and put all values to 0
Results:
1. ok
2. spaces need to be added manually after punctuation
3. ok
C. Have automatic spacing not enabled
Results:
1. impossible
2. spaces to be added manually all the time
3. ok
Kind regards,
Kristen
