Spacebar to expand words

I would like to use the spacebar to expand words and phrases. Other than assigning words at least a two-letter shortcut, is there a way to make the spacebar expand both? In order for this to work,phrases and words would have to come up in one list. I am a Smartype user converting to Instant Text.
