spacing after periods

Thanks for the links... I don't really under stand what the decimal glossary is... Can't you make a command in IT that will change the spacing, after the fact, (I have a vague recollection of a command you could use to change a y to "ies" or something.. Could the same be done to remove the extra 2 spaces after a period where you don't want them?
