Reading versus Recognizing -- Recognizing is much faster
I posted this on the Productivity board and it may be of interest to IT users: Reading and Recognizing are very different activities. Recognizing is a much faster process as you can see by doing the following test: The word hypercholesterolemia appears once in each paragraph below. How long does it take you to find them? For most people, it is instantaneous, well under one second. There are 150 words in the two paragraphs and If you had to read them at that speed, it would be a sweeping 9000 words per minute! Ten times the speed of Evelyn Wood speedreading adepts and thirty times faster than most readers. In primo luogo penso che non si possano fare soldi dove soldi già non ce ne sono e che quindi vi sia in atto una sorta di circolo vizioso; che sud poi manchi da sempre la mentalità del saper fare, lo spirito imprenditoriale per intenderci, e che si sia abituati ad aspettare hypercholesterolemia che siano gli altri (o lo stato) a prendere l'iniziativa, e questo sia per quanto riguarda il contrasto alla criminalità, sia per quanto riguarda l'iniziativa economica privata. La carenza e l'onerosità dei mezzi di finanziamento (le banche richiedono tassi di interesse molto più elevati al sud che al nord), la mancanza di infrastrutture unite in alcune zone ad una assenza di legalità fanno il resto. Credo infatti che l'iniziativa hypercholesterolemia non si possa sviluppare in mancanza di mezzi, di una cultura che la incoraggi e la favorisca, di un quadro giuridico chiaro e condiviso che la tuteli. The same happens when you are looking for a term in an advisory. This is not slow reading but ultra fast instantaneous recognition. You are trying to find out if it is there or not. If it is there, you will know it immediately. We've all been through this experience of reading a newspaper when your eye (or the brain behing your eye) gets attracted to a familiar name in another column. This is a similar process.
