questions re instant text

When I enter my instant text in a document, the phrase I entered jumps down a line. what do I need to do?

Also, I am trying to make new normals, but when I try and copy and paste our regular normals, not in instant text, it will not let me copy in the normal? Is this an Instant Text problem, or something our IT department needs to do?
