The caps lock on/off notification box is included in the bluetooth process. This notification on my laptop (HP 8230) caused a conflict with IT. Anytime I would try to use IT for a diagnosis with caps with the marker key, nothing would type.
I never knew what it was. That particular laptop had lots of troubles with the keyboard causing problems, so I mostly just decided to grin and bear it. I have posted in several different locations over the last five years and nobody knew how to fix it. HP techs could not figure it out. This month I gave up on that laptop. After they changed our formatting, it was too hard to work around it and keep any speed (my main computer is a desktop). I just bought a new Dell Vostro 3700 laptop. Well, lo and behold, the same issue occurred with that new laptop. I noticed that the caps lock notification was popping up when it should not whenever I hit the marker key.
Did some research about the caps lock notification. Found alot of people have problems with their Windows bluetooth computers locking up because of that caps lock. I found the solution shown below. Made the registry change. Now there are NO problems using IT on the new laptop or the OLD laptop. I thought I would post this solution in case it might help someone.
SOLUTION: The notification is caused by a process called bttray.exe. Killing it might fix the problem, but it'll break down you BT (or at least partially.
The SOLUTION is to edit this value in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\KeyIndication
Change it from 1 to 0. Reboot.
