Recompliling for a larger glossary

When I get a new dictator who is so challenging that even a small glossary would help, I compile one from just a few files. Then I use Enrich, or simply add on the fly, to add new terms as I transcribe a little more. Once I have done enough reports, I create a new glossary using all of his files, including the ones used before. I then merge the original glossary with my new glossary, making sure the original is first in the merge. This ensures that the vast majority of the expansions I am used to stay in the same place in the advisory. I then use the Condense feature of the Importer, sorting phrases with shortest codes first – my personal preference. I always use Condense if I do a merge, but in this case it is even more necessary than usual since duplicate entries are a given.

The main reason I merge my old glossary with the new one is so that I don't lose anything I've added or edited since the original compilation. I learned this the hard way in my early IT days -- I'd make a new, bigger glossary and throw out the old one, only to find that those mistakes I had painstakingly put right and the surprising number of additions were all lost to cyberspace!

If you've given your new glossary a different name, don't forget to Include or merge whatever you had in the old one; you'll end up with all the advantages of your original plus all the added value of more phrases/continuations!
