Go to the IT Options/Elements tab.

Do you have "Always on top" checked? Clear that and see if it helps.

If this doesn't work for you, maybe you need to resize your Word window, then close Word and open again to see if it stays there. I've never had the problem you describe and can't really think of anything else it might be. My IT advisory sits immediately below the Word status bar.
