just starting to use MS Word for windows 97

I used to use WP51 and workedin 2 documents at once (a log and referral letters) I tried this on MS word and had 9 documents open, but could not move between them. I expected to see them each at the bottom of the screen as you do when you have tabs open on the web. (I think I used shift F3 in WP51) to do this. HELP.......
