AutoCorrect is limited to approximately 7,000 entries.

You can run into problems before you reach that limit -- usually memory issues that make Word crash.

Have you installed any new programs lately? You may have an add-in that is conflicting with Word. It's also possible that your AutoCorrect files are corrupt. Do you have a backup of your .acl file that you can copy over?
