Word 2003 Docs opening in Header 1 style, but saved as body text

Recently when I open up a document to copy and paste or to modify, it comes up with Outline Level 1 instead of body text. When I copy and paste into a new document, the header level 1 shows up too requiring me to go into paragraph mode and change the document to body text. I am a user of MS Word 2003 and have tried to figure out how to change this, but thus far have had no luck. Also, when I copy and paste text into an existing word document, my default is supposed to be left justified and yet it changes the document to justified. I am a blind medical transcriptionist and need to know how to resolve these issues, as it is slowing me down and reducing my efficiency. Any help would be most welcome.
