Some users don't like auto numbering because

of the automatic indent. They may not be aware that there is a built-in style (in Word 2002 and later) that puts numbering at the left margin. They may not be aware there is also a keyboard shortcut for returning numbering to the left margin. Your daughter is just aware of that setting from earlier versions of Word. :)

Que publishes excellent books on Word. You might want to invest in one if you don't have time to go to classes.
