My AutoText won't save entries I make into it from day to day!

I'm using Word 2003, and when I exit the software/close down Word for the day, I get no such prompt about save Normal when I quit Word. I know what you're talking about because I used to see it all the time when I worked elsewhere and on other software platforms. I have not yet tried to save AutoCorrect formatted entries, mostly because we were discouraged at my last place from doing so. So what is going on here? and how do I set this up to do so? What's more, how do I find normal.dot?
