Instant Text for Real-Time Captioningby Edward Colie |
Edward Colie answers the question:
What is real-time captioning?
Real-time captioning is delivered by having a hearing typist using a series of macros so she can keep pace with the speakers and type out the spoken word. Thus a non-hearing person can keep track of what is going on and participate in the exchange of ideas.
Our real-time captioning system uses the Textware Solutions program, a word prediction system. This system is intelligent and after a short use starts predicting whole phrases as one letter is struck. Thus, a skilled typist can easily deliver 200 words per minute.
