The ABCZ Glossary For Instant Text The ABCZ Glossary is a file of about 14,000 common words and phrases to use with Instant Text to do medical transcription. Its purpose is to save keystrokes and to increase typing speed by using a user friendly abbreviation system. It was designed by a medical transcriptionist for use by other transcriptionists.
Using the ABCZ Glossary with Instant Text From the beginning you will be able to get good typing speed. As you become familiar with the few rules of the ABCZ System, your speed will increase even more. You will achieve much greater output but your fingers will actually be less tired at the end of the day because of the great keystroke/output ratio achieved with the combination of the ABCZ Glossary and Instant Text. Yet little memorization is required. This is because the ABCZ System is a simple system with few rules and because Instant Text displays several lines of words and phrases for you to choose from as you type. The words and phrases in the ABCZ Glossary were compiled directly from medical transcription work, primarily orthopaedics and neurology, and also internal medicine, psychology and plastic surgery. In addition, dictionaries, word lists, etc. were consulted for common terms and phrases. The Glossary is designed for general medical transcription with emphasis on the specialties mentioned. As an example of how the ABCZ Glossary works, take the word hospitalization. Using the ABCZ system you would type: hosn - the first three letters abc of the word (here hos) and the last letter z of the word (here n) - hence the name abcz for the method and the glossary. The word hospitalization appears in the Instant Text advisory, and you press the marker key to enter it. Five strokes to get fifteen. Or take the word instability. You would type: insy and because there are several words which abbreviate to this form, the Instant Text advisory window would display:

The top line is highlighted and to enter instability into the text, you would press the Instant Text marker key that you had selected. If you wanted instantly instead, you would press a and then the marker key. (Or you could press Shift once, which would highlight instantly and then press the marker key.) Similarly, if you wanted insufficiently you would press b and then the marker key. (Or you could press Shift twice, which would highlight insufficiently and then press the marker key.) You do not have to laboriously type through long words - you get there quickly with the ABCZ rule. Another example, for two-word phrases:

You would select hedi to get heart disease, or hedia to get herniated disc, as above, depending on which phrase you wanted. 14,000 words and phrases There are about 14,000 words and phrases built into the Glossary using these and a few other rules in the ABCZ System so you can type the same short form each time to quickly and reliably get the word or phrase you want. And the choices are always displayed for you by Instant Text at the bottom of the screen so you don't have to remember what an abbreviation/short form expands to. Customizing ABCZ to your needs Since everyone has her or his own preferences, you can customize the list as much as you want using Instant Text's handy editing features. You can enter your favorite short forms or modify those in the ABCZ Glossary. The ABCZ Glossary systematizes the abbreviations and saves you the effort of constructing, entering and memorizing hundreds or thousands of short forms and long forms. Instant Text's Advisory displays at the bottom of the screen make the system easy to use. What you get: When you order the ABCZ Glossary, you will receive a copy of
