An easy way of using Word 2000 with IT

Now that I have started using Word 2000 [...] I have found a really annoying problem. It seems you cannot link IT directly to Word 2000 so that it is linked to any open document. Rather, you have to link it to a particular document, and every time you open a new one (or switch between several open docs) you have to relink IT.

There is an easy way. Bearing in mind that real MTs never use the mouse :) think about how you switch from one document to another one:

  • In Word 97, you repeat Ctrl+F6 until you get to your document
  • In Word 2000, you Alt+Tab, Tab, Tab... until you find it
But with Instant Text you may as well use Alt+Period to switch to the next document because this does not take longer. So it means that if you have WP 9 open and two or three Word 2000 documents open, the same Alt+Period is used to switch between any two documents, irrespective of whether they are Word 2000 or WP documents.

The simplicity of the method is that Alt+Period is used for both switching and relinking. Using the link dialog to switch does not cost you more in keystrokes and perhaps even less than Alt+Tab if you have several applications open.
