Moving to eScription but cannot use Alt . and Alt ,

I tried 5 times to add these to my IT (5.44). I used the command key and put {Alt.}_ but I get a blank space. I tried command key and {Alt .)_ (that's 1 space between the "alt" and period)and I get {Alt .}on the screen.

It was my first time using eScription today and IT didn't work with it, either. I checked and it was linked correctly. What else could be wrong (or am I asking for a miracle?) LOL

P.S. I've been using IT for 4 years now and haven't had many problems with it.
