I don't know about MP Count. On the other hand, we compared Instant Text and SylCount on Word 97 documents and our results are very close — that is, within 1% of each other. Mike DeTuri also compared his own FreeCount macro to the count produced by Instant Text and came to the same conclusion.

If MP Count comes close to what MS Word counts, this is not good because MS Word notoriously undercounts. I have not rechecked it with more recent Word versions but in Word 97, it would not count things such as tabs, paragraphs, and font changes and format changes.
