New IT user
After a year of wishing I was an IT user and one conversation with Cheryl Flanders, I purchased IT! I read through the manual, installed it, and created one new glossary based on some mental health files (I also do Internal Medicine and other specialities, but I figured I would start with the easiest first). What I have found out about myself is that I had focused a great deal on one-word abbreviations. I see the potential that IT has to offer, but I find myself getting stuck on those old habits (expansion keys) and one-word abbreviations. I really want to use the marker keys because I see the advantage of the continuations, and I did often (in my old expander program) have to backspace to correct unwanted expansions. So I'm wondering if you have any tips for a newbie to IT who needs to learn a few new tricks and break some old habits. My previous expander was expanding about 40 percent of my text. On my first session with IT today, I slowed down quite a bit, and IT expanded only 15 percent of my text! Ha! I do believe I need more practice. I was wondering how wise it would be to import my old abbreviations and use them until I get the hang of IT, or would it be better to start with a clean slate? What an excellent program though! The potential is incredible, and I hope it learn it QUICKLY! ;-)
