Win XP may be hiding your normal.dot.

Go to Windows Explorer/Tools menu/Folder Options/View tab and check the box next to Show all hidden files and search again. If you still cannot locate the normal.dot, make a valid change to the file, such as adding an AutoText entry, close out Word and answer yes to the prompt to save normal.dot, then search again.

You can paste your back up to the full folder path located in your search. However, Word 2003 has new menu items that you may know are there if you use your 2000 normal.dot. 2003 also uses different Registry settings. I'd suggest you let Word create the default 2003 normal.dot and use the Organizer to transfer your AutoText entries, macros, and other customizations from your 2000 file, then back up the new file. Instructions for using the Organizer are in the Help file.
