Smartype is known to not work well with Word 2003

Have you downloaded the Smartype fix for this version of Word?

Also check the AutoCorrect Exceptions dialog box to see if these words are on any of the lists. While in this dialog box, make sure "Automatically add words to list" is not checked on all tabs.
