Automatic bolding...can I turn this off somehow?

If I have a heading thats bold, hit control B to switch to unbold, and hit return or space, it goes back into Bold mode.... It's driving me crazy... Can I turn it off somehow? Obviously, if I hit "unbold", I want it to be not bold anymore!
