What is new in Version 7.20
The following list shows the Instant
Text 7 Pro improvements done in 710 and 720. Changes
done in these updates are marked in color as [710],
[720].
- Right-clicking the help button (?) on the caption brings up
the About dialog [720]
- Instant Text is now compatible with Internet
Explorer also in protected mode [720]
- Introducing the Pick List command and the Pick List
Glossary [720]
The Pick List Glossary
is
a special glossary that
serves
as a repository for Pick Lists.
A Pick List
can be displayed in the advisories using a Pick List command.
A Pick List Glossary
entry, also called a Pick List Item,
has:
- A Short form
that is used to identify the Pick List
to which it belongs.
- A Long form
that is the expansion to be produced, as for standard glossary entries.
- An optional Display form, as
for standard glossary entries.
A Pick List is
a set of Pick List Items
that share the same Short form.
In
essence, the Short form here
is used as a Pick List name.
In
the following example, the entries highlighted in slate blue are the
items of the Pick List
named color.
The entry highlighted in dark blue is the one that has the
focus: it can be deleted, edited or moved.

A standard glossary entry can refer to the Pick List
color using the Pick List command,
as shown in the example below:
mfc =>
{command}My favorite color is {PickList}color{/PickList}
Expanding mfc
produces:
- My favorite color is
- And the Pick List
color is displayed in
the Phrase
Advisory enabling you to pick one of the suggested colors:

- Introducing the Quick Pick command for simple pick lists [720]
The Quick Pick
command enables you to display a Pick List with
several alternative lines of text. The lines should be entered in the Quick Pick Editor,
in the order in which you want them
to be displayed in the Phrase Advisory.

Note that the Pick List command
is more powerful as it enables you to have pick list items with display
forms and commands, which is not possible with the Quick Pick
command.
- Introducing the Paste Rich Text command [720]
The Paste Rich Text command
enables you to produce rich text (formatted text) inside a command
entry.
- Introducing the No Spacing and No Capitalization commands [720]
The No Spacing
command enables to inhibit spacing after the expansion.
The No Capitalization
command enables to inhibit
capitalization after the expansion.
- Introducing Find and Replace menu items in the Add Glossary
Entry window [720]
You can now search and replace text in your long entries using
the Find and Replace items of the Edit menu:

- Refine Continuations
Upon Typing New Initial [710]
The Refine Continuations Upon
Typing New Initial option enables you to refine the
continuations that are displayed after an expansion or after typing a
few words. With this option, upon typing the initial of the next word,
Instant text displays continuations that start with this initial.

Let
us assume you type The patient
or simply expand tp
to produce The
patient: you get the following continuations:

Now you want to type The
patient was brought to the operating room, and was brought
is not yet displayed as a possible continuation. Typing w
will bring all the continuations of The patient that
start with w:

You can now
pick was
brought by typing 4
followed by your phrase marker to expand to The patient was brought
and then expand the end of the phrase you
want to type:

With the Refine Continuations Upon
Typing
New Initial option, this example shows that we
have been able to easily select continuations that would have been out
of reach otherwise.
- Buffering
Continuations and Advisory Scrolling [710]
Instant
Text now buffers more continuations than displayed advisory lines.
You can reach continuations that are not yet visible by Scrolling
the Advisories. This scrolling concept was already available
for words and phrases. It has now been extended to continuations.
- View
Continuations using Shift Alt = or a Right Click [710]
You
can now view the glossary phrase that generated a displayed
continuation by Right
Clicking it or typing Shift+Alt+= while it is
highlighted in the advisories.

In this example we
right clicked the was
examined continuation. This feature can be very handy if
you want to understand where a continuation comes from or if you need
to correct a typo in a displayed continuation.
- Singles
in the Phrase Advisory [710]
By
default Singles are displayed in the Word Advisory. It is now possible
to display them in the Phrase Advisory by checking Display Singles in Phrase Advisory
in the Singles Options Dialog:

This option can be
useful if you don't display the Word Advisory.
Also, if you
are
used to expand your singles with a Phrase Marker and decide to use the
the
Refine
Continuations Upon Typing New Initial
option (see Continuations Options Dialog), you definitely should
display your singles in the Phrase Advisory. They will then appear
before the continuations as shown in the example below:

- Spacing
after Dr./Mr./Ms./Mrs./Jr. and middle initials A./B./C./.../Z.
[710]
The
new version recognizes spacing exceptions like Dr./Mr./Ms./Mrs./Jr. as
well as middle initials A./B./C./.../Z. and adds
only one space
even if you have specified that you want 2 spaces after a period
indicating the end of sentence.
- Spacing
and Capitalization after cf./vs. and
acronyms like b.i.d./t.i.d./p.o./q.4-6h. [710]
The
new version:
- adds one space after cf./vs.
and does not capitalize the next word.
- adds one
space after
expansions ending with an acronym like b.i.d./t.i.d./p.o./q.4-6h. and
does not capitalize the next word.
- Allowing
Single Letter Abbreviations for a letter not contained in the expansion
[710]
Most
of the time the single letter abbreviation will be the first letter of
the expansion,
but not always. For
example, you may want to define a single letter abbreviation for
7 that
expands to seven.
- Compilation
does not cut words with apostrophes anymore. [710]
patient's or
don't
for example are now recognized as words when encountered in a
document that you compile.
- By
default Function keys do NOT reset the advisories. [710]
In
the previous version, the default was to reset the advisories upon
hitting Function keys.
If you still want Function keys to
reset the advisories, you can do so by checking Function Keys in
the Advisory
Reset Keys panel of the Options Special Keys dialog.
