RE: Musing3 - ABCZ Short forms
Hi again, Sharon, Thanks for posting some examples of your short forms. They are indeed short! I've put in the ABCZ short forms for comparison. These are generally longer. On the other hand, all entries, words and phrases in the ABCZ system follow 3 basic rules (described on my web site). There is little memorization other than the basic rules. For longer words the basic rule is the first three letters of the word plus the last letter, or ABCZ.
Note that the Z takes care of the last letter so word families are easily handled: acks = acknowledges
If one of 13 or so common prefixes occurs, abbreviate the prefix too by using the first letter, then use ABCZ. a-cho-c = anticholinergic. Very common words get shortened
The d is to differentiate from other words whose short form is also appy such as apparently, appendectomy, etc. Since these all show up in the visual display in Instant Text or Shorthand for Windows, you just select the correct choice with another keystroke or two. Jon
Again, the extra letter b, c or g above is to differentiate from other words with the same 4 letter short form. Related link: A Web Site About Typing Productivity
