Expansion List

When linked to a Client Application, Instant Text keeps track of the typing context, and populates an internal Expansion List of the most plausible expansion candidates for the abbreviation you typed.

The Expansion List is displayed in the Expansion Table.

If the Expansion Table has too few lines to display the complete Expansion List, only the candidates at the top of the list will be displayed. To access the other candidates, the Expansion Table can be scrolled.

Gathering Expansion Candidates

Gathering expansion candidates consists in scanning the Current Glossary, for glossary entries with short forms that encompass the abbreviation you typed and rank them in the following order:

  1. exact matches: the short form matches the abbreviation exactly.
  2. root matches: the short form is the abbreviation plus a few other characters.
  3. superset matches: the short form contains the abbreviation.

In the following example, we have typed atro, and the Expansion Table displays the expansion candidates gathered in the Expansion List, illustrating the various types of matches and their order:

Note, that in case of a single letter abbreviation, the Expansion List only gathers exact matches.

Expansion List for single letter abbreviation

Root matches and Superset matches are gathered, only when the abbreviation has at least two characters.
